This week at City Church

At Citychurch, everything revolves around our one sentence purpose statement: To extend the glory of God by making disciples through the gospel of Jesus Christ

The message of the Bible is a message of redemption.  John Frame, “God glorifies himself in the redemption of sinners.”   Kent Hughes, ”God is redeeming his creation by bringing it under the lordship of Jesus Christ.”  Erik Thoennes, “The main message of the Bible is that the one true God is displaying his glory primarily in redeeming and restoring his fallen creation by fulfilling his covenant promises and commands through the glorious person and atoning work of Christ.”  Scott Hafemann, “The Triune God is the beginning, middle, and end of everything, 'for from him (as Creator) and through him (as Sustainer and Redeemer) and to him (as Judge) are all things' (Rom 11:36).”

We are at the stage of growth in our church where we seeking to provide the right systems to meet our needs. One area this will be more visible is in our Welcome/Guest Services and in a new area we are calling Security.  Dwayne Rodriguez is coordinating this work, and he has organized a team which will insure that we provide a safe worship experience. One of the first things that will be implemented is using only the front door and ramp door for entrance to the church.  Also, those that are working with the children will be clearly identified.  Especially in the day and age we live in, we must be “wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”

Continuing with the series on “Prayers to Pray Before Church,” we offer this prayer for our overall mission: “Dear Lord, we know that we are not saved by our good works, but for good works (Ephesians 2:8-10). Focus our hearts on the mission you have for us to share the gospel and make disciples of Christ (Matthew 28:18–20). Remind us how our marriages, family lives, work, and hobbies can be avenues to adorn the gospel through our proclamation and Christ-exalting lifestyles. Use our time as your gathered body to build us up and send us out for ministering your gospel, in the power of your Spirit, to our broken world. These things we pray In Jesus Name — Amen.”
