This Week at City Church

At City Church, everything revolves around our one sentence purpose statement: to extend the glory of God by making disciples through the gospel of Jesus Christ. This vision translates for us into three key values; gospel, community, and mission.  Our weekly updates are designed to keep this focus.

In remembrance of Black Heritage Month, a quote from that great American botanist and inventor, George Washington Carver, “The secret of my success?  It is simple.  It is found in the BIBLE, ‘In all our ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.’” (Proverbs 3:6)  Keep this in mind as we continue to read the Scriptures as a church community.

This week’s Community Bible Readings (CBR) are: Feb 5 — Isaiah 17, Acts 2;  Feb 6 — Isaiah 18, Acts 3;  Feb 7 — Isaiah 19, Acts 4; Feb 8— Isaiah 20, Acts 5; Feb 9 — Isaiah 21, Acts 6; and Feb 10 — Psalm 110.  Get plugged into the “community” part of the CBR by sharing your thoughts and also learning from others from these readings with a text group.  Call the church office to get plugged in.

We realize that weather and other conditions sometime prevent making it to church on Sunday, and though nothing substitutes for the fellowship of worship with other believes, it is still possible to listen to the message on-line! This is especially important for those becoming part of home groups as the Sunday message will be a fundamental part of our discussions together.

This week we are beginning our five new home group meetings located in Williamsport, South Williamsport, Montoursville, and Trout Run. It is not too late to sign up!

Due to weather, we rescheduled to this Sunday for our “Pizza with the Pastor” (and elders) after church for those interested in the possibility of joining City Church. Even for those who just have questions, we invite you to this event to learn more about the church.

City Church is part of the Acts 29, which is a network of churches that plant churches.  A partner church in the network is Portico Church in Charlottesville, Virginia whose lead pastor is Chris Atwell.  Keep them in your prayers this week as they join with us in a becoming and replicating gospel-focused, spirit-empowered, community-based churches.
