This Week at City Church

At City Church, everything revolves around our one sentence purpose statement: to extend the glory of God by making disciples through the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This vision translates for us into three key values; gospel, community, and mission.  Our weekly updates are designed to keep this focus.

In remembrance of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday on February 12th,  I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man.  All the good from The Savior of the world is communicated to us through this Book.”

This week’s Community Bible Readings (CBR) are: Feb 12 — Isaiah 22, Acts 7;  Feb 13 — Isaiah 23, Acts 8;  Feb 14 — Isaiah 24, Acts 9; Feb 15 — Isaiah 25, Acts 10; Feb 16 — Isaiah 26, Acts 11; and Feb 17 — Psalm 111.  There are two ways you can share your thoughts on these readings.  One is at 9:15 Sundays at the church, led by Larry Stout.  You can also share your thoughts virtually with an on-line text group.  There are several, so call the church office to get plugged into one.

Remember: you can always listen to the message on-line by accessing the church’s website, (listed under “Resources.”)  This is especially important for those becoming part of home groups as the Sunday message will be a fundamental part of our discussions together.

Serving in Citychurch includes many small but important things — like where to park!  If you arrive before 10:00, please consider parking on the street or at the parking lot across the street.  In the past couple of weeks, those arriving right around 10:30 cannot find a parking spot, and are forced to park further away, which makes them even later for the church service.  So, think “community” in the way your park your car!

This week it is Ladies Study at church on Tuesday night at 6:30pm. You can still sign up for home groups that meet on the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month!

For those interested in becoming members of the church, we are holding “Discover Citychurch” classes before church at 9:00 in the upstairs meeting room, for the remainder of February.  For more info, go to the website, and under “New Here” click on “Covenant Membership.”

And don’t forget, all those in grades 6-12 — “Legacy” is the new youth ministry and meets every Thursday at the church from 6:30-8:30.  If you have questions, contact our youth pastor Kevin Garza.

We are putting a strong focus this year on praying for other churches, especially for church plants and re-replants such as City Church.  This week we are lifting up a church plant, Gospel Community Church in Providence, Rhode Island that was just launched in September of 2017.  Tim and Brittaine Moroz are leading a team that has strategically picked Providence for its impact in that region.  They have a challenge as this city is statistically the third-least Bible minded city in America.  Pray for this new gospel-centered work to get effectively established and grow for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
